Between May and July the sun never sets in Tromsø, which means that you can experience up to 24 hours of sunlight. This gives you more time to explore and discover the city and what it has to offer. The best way to chase the midnight sun is from a mountain top or a white sandy beach with clear view to the north.

Tromsø has a wide selection of sights. “The Arctic Cathedral” is a monumental landmark, the cable car to mount “Storsteinen” is always fascinating as well as a visit to the Botanical Garden. Visit on of the many museums, Norway's largest planetarium or maybe the World's northernmost aquarium - Polaria.

Get a taste of the Arctic winter wonderland and join an excursion into the wilderness. Pick and choose between dog sledding or snowmobiling for the adrenaline seeker, or maybe whale safari, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing for those who want a calmer pace to their experience.

Visit a Sami camp and get a wonderful and authentic sami experience, go the old-fashioned way by reindeer sleds and get close and interact with the reindeer herd while feeding them. During your stay you get to learn about the culture, traditional artifacts and treasures, and life in the Arctic.

Do like the locals do, enjoy a fresh hike up one of the many mountains surrounding the city. Here you will find a variety of hiking trails suitable for all levels. Choose between short to whole day trips. One of the most popular hikes is up the Sherpatrappa to the Cable car plateau located at the mainland. Also at Kvaløya you will find endless hike options, ranging from easy 1 hour hikes to steep advanced hikes lasting for several hours.

Throughout the history Tromsø has been the starting point for several hunting, research and polar expeditions. Over the years, the many significant expeditions made its mark on the city and Tromsø was established as the “Gateway to the Arctic” in the late 1800s. The Polar Museum exhibits and presents the polar seafaring tradition. While at the Tromsø Museum you will find a number of exhibitions that gives you insight into the culture and nature of Northern Norway. Other museums that is also worth visiting is Perspektivet Museum & Tromsø War Museum.

Tromsø offers a variety of festivals and happenings throughout the year. Here you can enjoy festivals like Insomnia, Bukta, Rakettnatt, Tromsø Jazzfestival, The Northern Lights Festival and Tromsø International Film Festival. Other happenings worth mentioning is Sami week to Midnight sun marathon to year-round concerts in the Arctic Cathedral.

Discover the city's art scene through the streets of Tromsø. You will find different venues showcasing a diversity of art forms - galleries displaying art and crafts, museums, architecture, sculptures, jewelry artists and the northernmost glassblowing studio. In addition, you can also have a look out for street art and mural paintings on buildings and in alleys.

Get a taste of Northern Norway and try some local and seasonal temptations along with a local beer. Essential to the Norwegian cuisine and cultural heritage is the fish, and especially the stockfish which has become a world class delicacy. Another traditional delicacy worth trying is reindeer meat.
